The nicest feature, in my opinion, is that the knife can be opened and closed simply when wearing gloves. Those who work outside and with high voltage, and need to be able to access the knife fast while wearing thick, bulky rubber gloves. With gloves on, the grips and aided open and closing mechanism make this knife easy to use one-handed. That in itself is a tremendous plus.

The blade also lasts a long time. It keeps sharp for a long time and is easy to sharpen, or you may send it back to be sharpened. I’ve never had to use their customer service, but a coworker had to return a knife, and he said the experience was excellent.

I prefer this knife to the more costly variants I’ve owned because the more expensive models have thinner metallic grips, whereas this one has broader composite grips that fit better in your hand and function well with gloves.

Overall, it is a fantastic knife. This is a must-have item that is well worth the money. It is, in fact, a bargain.

The Advantages

  • It has a textured handle that makes it easy to hold.
  • It has a drop-point blade that can be used for regular chores.
  • It has a collapsible form that makes it simple to store and transport.

Other advantages

High-Performance Steel

8Cr13MoV steel is a cost-effective, dependable, top-of-the-line Chinese steel with carbon and somewhat less nickel for toughness and edge retention. Kershaw’s precision heat treated 8Cr13MoV steel takes and retains an edge securely and delivers wear resistance that can endure abrasive and adhesive wear damage. 8Cr13MoV is a high-performance blade steel with a low price tag.

Attractive Blade Coating

Kershaw’s bead-blasted finish compliments a knife’s end-use and enhances its beauty. The high-tech finish is created by pressing a fine media mixture into the blade’s steel, resulting in a smooth, non-reflective matte surface. Glass and aluminum oxide beads are fine media that allow for color variety and optimal performance results for a beautiful overall impact.

Fast Deployment

Kershaw’s unique SpeedSafe Assisted Opening mechanism uses a torsion bar to lift the blade out of the grip, allowing for smooth, secure, and rapid one-handed blade deployment. To overcome the torsion bar’s resistance, apply manual pressure to the flipper or thumb stud with a light push or pull back, and the blade opens smoothly and locks into position for confident handling without premature closure.

Secure Locking System

The liner locking method safely secures the blade open and prevents unwanted blade closing by using two steel plates or liners on the inside of each handle scale. To prevent closure, the lock bar butts up on the blade’s backside and angles or bends towards the blade tang, generating a bias locked state. Move the lock bar to the side and fold the blade back into the handle with human force.

One-Handed Flipper

One-handed blade deployment is available on knives with SpeedSafe open. A thumb stud or a flipper can be pressed to trigger the smooth, quick open. Both left- and right-handed users can easily operate the flipper on SpeedSafe aided knives. The flipper either disappears for aesthetics or remains visible for enhanced finger protection once the blade swings open and locks into position.

Durable Handle

Glass-filled nylon handle material is a synthetic nylon polymer bonded with glass threads for additional strength. It is very robust, able to withstand heavy-duty harsh use, and multifunctional. Glass-filled nylon possesses amazing rigidity for a secure and firm grip, as well as outstanding heat resistance, dimensional stability, and wear resistance.

Convenient Pocketclip

Kershaw creates pocket clips that are tailored to various knives based on its weight, intended use, size, style, and hardware. Some knives allow you to carry them in a variety of ways. Others are more efficient. The reversible pocket clip allows the user to carry the knife tip-up or tip-down, as well as choosing which side the knife is carried on. Either a desired tip position or a preferred carry side can be selected by the user.

The Drawbacks

It is possible that the paint will chip.

Other drawback

Manufacturing fault

This knife is hugely beneficial, however it is risky to use due to a manufacturing fault. On my knife, the mechanism that holds the blade in place is broken. This can cause the blade to collapse and harm the user’s fingers.  Aside from this one flaw, the knife is fantastic.

Sharpening

Straight out of the box, the knife was razor-sharp. If you need to sharpen it, you won’t be able to sharpen this blade using a pull-thru. It’s preferable to a dull blade, but invest in a sharpener or learn to utilize stones. Pull-thru sharpeners are fine for kitchen knives since they’re quick and convenient, and you can do it on a daily basis, but not all knife blades like them, and I have fantastic pull-thru sharpeners.

Length

This blade, razor-sharp or not, is a little too short for the serrated edge, in my opinion. Granted, it makes it more versatile, which is why people chose to get it. It does has a longer straight blade. But it can be difficult for short handed people.
